The maquette of the "Reading Girl" was created from multiple photos I took of my cousin’s grandaughter, capturing her deep in concentration while reading a book. This small-scale figurine portrays a young girl sitting on a log in a graceful pose, with her right leg delicately crossed over her left knee as she immerses herself in the pages of a book. Her head is gently tilted to the side, her right foot delicately hanging in the air, her left foot slightly lifted off the ground.

This maquette served as a model for the life-sized resin bronze sculpture, which now stands in a children's public garden in my parents' home village, Villa S Maria, Abruzzo, Italy. The process of creating the life-sized sculpture took four years to complete. My son, Josh, built the armature and I then worked on sculpting the piece using standard crank clay.

On August 13, 2022, the life-sized sculpture was unveiled in Villa S Maria, Abruzzo, where it now graces the community with its timeless beauty as an inspiration to young children to cherish the gift of reading, for within the pages of books lie endless possibilities, waiting to be explored and embraced. Reading is a magnificent journey that takes us to different worlds.

The original maquette in white clay was completed in 3 weeks. The piece is available in stone & marble resin.

The life size sculpture is available in bronze resin. The moulding, casting and finishing service was realised by LS Sculpture Casting.
