The piece titled "Drifting Off," captures a tranquil moment of a young lady in a state of contemplation and relaxation during a life modelling session. The sculpture conveys the beauty and serenity of this scene through intricate details and subtle gestures.
The central figure, the young lady, is portrayed sitting on a stool with a graceful yet relaxed posture. Her head is turned to the right, as if gazing at something in the distance, lost in a daydream. Her eyes are peacefully closed, signalling that she has drifted off to sleep or entered a state of tranquil reverie. Despite her slumbering state, she holds herself upright with a slight forward bend in her shoulders, maintaining an elegant and composed demeanour.
The young lady's body language further enhances the sense of calmness and introspection portrayed in the artwork. Her right hand gently rests on her left thigh, conveying a sense of softness and vulnerability. Meanwhile, her left arm is positioned behind her, resting on a cushion on the stool, adding a layer of comfort and support to her pose. The positioning of her legs, with her left leg folded under her right leg and her foot delicately placed on its side on a step, creates a sense of balance and harmony in her stance.
The sculpture resembles an ivory figurine. The use of baked white clay, finished in an ivory satin texture, enhances the sense of purity and grace associated with the subject.
The serene pose of the young lady conveys a sense of dreamlike beauty and calm. The viewer is invited to to appreciate and connect with the ethereal beauty of the piece and to contemplate and reflect on the beauty of quiet moments and the inner worlds that we explore in our dreams and daydreams.
This piece was sculpted in a 10-week life sculpting session. This is the original in baked white clay finished in an ivory satin texture.
The piece is available in iron & marble resin.
