Lady with Shawl

The sculpture “Lady with Shawl” is a torso of an elegant and sophisticated lady, adorned with a gracefully draped shawl, presenting a tableau of timeless femininity and refined poise.

The shawl, an integral part of the composition, is wrapped gently around her shoulders, imparting a sense of warmth and intimacy. Its drape across her right forearm and left upper arm showcases a meticulous attention to the fluid dynamics of fabric, adding a flowing, almost lifelike quality to the sculpture. The shawl elegantly complements the posture of the lady and frames her figure with a soft elegance.

Her left arm is relaxed yet confident, resting on the back of an armchair, and provides an anchoring balance to her poised demeanour. This position suggests a sense of ease and composure, enhanced by the delicate interplay between her arm and the cascading folds of the shawl. The slight angle of her arm indicates a leisureliness that contrasts subtly with the structured lines of the chair, evoking a harmonious blend of relaxation and formality.

A detail that adds to the lady’s composed demeanour is her right hand holding her left hand, which infuses the sculpture with a sense of tenderness and composed grace, a quiet confidence, and an air of contemplative serenity as she sits, her hands gracefully intertwined.

This piece was sculpted in a 10-week life class. This is the original in baked white clay which I hand painted.
